POWER UNIT
Caterpillar® model C15 diesel engine, rated 440 hp (328 kW) @ 2,150 rpm. Adequate cooling capacity for 125 degree (58°C) ambient temperature operation and two-stage air cleaner system. 24-volt electric start and battery disconnect switch. Tier II compliant.
DIGGING CHAIN DRIVE ASSEMBLY
Mechanically driven through a multispeed transmission with integral three-element torque converter and heavy duty differential to both ends of headshaft by means of double reduction, fully-enclosed and oil-bath-lubricated roller chain final drive boxes. Chain speeds: 1st gear-200 fpm (61 m/min); 2nd gear-315 fpm (96 m/min); 3rd gear-461 fpm (141 m/min); 4th gear-637 fpm (194 m/min).
DIGGING CAPACITY
Trench widths of 16" (40 cm) through 42" (107 cm) in various increments. At 10 ft. (3.05 m) depth, the maximum width is 42" (107 cm). At 12 ft. (3.66 m) depth, the maximum width is 36" (91 cm).
DIGGING ASSEMBLY
Several digging boom and chain assemblies are available to accommodate a variety of width and depth combinations. All digging booms are ruggedly constructed with high strength steel, internal baffles for added rigidity, fill and drain ports for adding or deleting steel shot and easily replaceable "floating type" bottom wear plates. All standard booms are sectionalized to accommodate optional boom extensions for a variety of depth combinations. Standard digging chain options consist of either single Caterpillar type D8 for 16" to 20" widths, double D7 on 10" centers for 26" to 36" widths, double D7 on 16" centers for 32" to 42" widths or double D8 on 16" centers for 32" to 42" widths. Cutter bar plates are made from T1 steel in 1.5" thickness (standard) or 2" thickness (optional) and incorporate heavy-duty 1.5" series conical tooth blocks that accept a wide assortment of carbide tipped teeth. Tailwheels are 48" diameter with high alloy forged outer races and are bolted to either single or double flange housings with heavy-duty spherical bearings and double seal system for maximum endurance.
FUEL CAPACITY
Dual tanks, 250 gallon (946 L) total capacity provides 11-hour operating range.
HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
Hydraulic system for propel, conveyor and cylinders includes oversize 200 gallon (757 L) capacity reservoir with separate remote fan-driven oil cooler.
CONVEYOR
Arc-type with 30" (76 cm) wide center-guided belt driven hydraulically from both ends. Speed is infinitely variable from 0 to 800 fpm (240 m/min). Conveyor is hydraulically shiftable from side to side and reversible in direction for spoil placement on either side of machine. Conveyor folds within width of machine for transport.
CRAWLERS
Caterpillar®-type D-7 sized component on an extra long frame for good stability and flotation with 24" (61cm) low profile single-, double- or triple grousers. Ground bearing pressure is approx. 18.2 psi ( 1.28 kg/cm2) with 24" (61 cm) track shoes. Both undercarriage assemblies are easily removable for transport.
CRAWLER DRIVE AND STEERING
Infinitely variable hydrostatic/mechanical system for speeds from 0 to 2 mph (3.2 km/h). Separate hydrostatic transmission for each track with electric over hydraulic steering controls and heavy duty planetary gearbox direct-coupled to track drive sprocket. Tracks may be counter rotated for good maneuverability and easily adapted to automatic steering system, either laser, stringline or GPS. Automatic parking brake is standard.
BOOM HOIST
Boom is elevated by double-acting, dual eight-inch hydraulic cylinders mounted to the substructure. The hoist provides positive down-pressure for increased stability holding grade, and adequate tailwheel clearance when tramming the machine.
OPERATOR’S STATION
Fully enclosed, pressurized cab with filtration includes air conditioning and heat. All machine controls are within easy reach of the operator. Elevates hydraulically 36" (91 cm) for increased operator visibility and sound suppression.
